Quechua terminology for the Office of the Ombudsman
Juan Revollo Valencia
Cultural manager, Cultural Diffuser, Quechua Linguist.
The following terms concern the need to update the
terms referring to the designation in the spatial environment of the institution
for the safeguarding of Human Rights at the level of each country, taking into
account that, in short, none of the state and private institutions were born
with the intention of taking into account the development of the indigenous
languages. In this sense, there is a need to orient the term
"Ombudsman" for its assimilation in the native Quechua language.
However, it does not mean that with this words the institution of defense is
already assuming and fulfilling the rights of the native Quechua speaker
peoples.
Office
of the Ombudsman. Llaqta waqaychaq.
Departmental
Defense Delegation. Llaqta
Waqaychaqpa Partamintu Rantiqin.
Defense
delegate from …. Llaqta Waqaychaqpa …. Rantiqin.
Defend. Jark'ay (jark'akuy). Caj:
washay.
Protect. Waqaychay. Jark'ay.
But the ombudsman’s task is to "defend and
protect" the human rights, then he or she has to alternate between the
"waqaychay and jark'akuy". Because, "jark'ay" in itself
will only be "cut", but "jark'akuy", already with the
suffix -ku- or others will be "defend". While the
"waqaychay" already contains the "defend and protect".
Protect rights. Chayaqikunata waqaychay.
Delegate. (v.) Kachay.
Represent. Rantiy.
Delegate. (n.) Rantiq.
Delegation. Rantiqi.
Right. Chayaqi.
Human Rights. Runa Chayaqikuna.
People.
Runa. (people).
People.
Llaqta (which already contemplates
not only people).
